What is an
LCD Video Wall?
LCD video walls have been around for a long time, and many people will be familiar with their grid-like appearance. An LED video wall, on the other hand, has a seamless appearance.
An LCD video wall is created by combining individual LCD screens together to create one large display. The LCD screens used are not standard but unique models designed with very narrow edges specifically for use in an LCD video wall display.
LCD video walls offer excellent image quality that can be viewed from close up positions, just like a standard screen at home. They are designed for indoor use and come in various brightness levels, with low-brightness models helping reduce costs for budget video walls and brighter models that will not appear washed out when used in flagship retail stores with high ambient light levels.

Key Features of LCD Video Walls:
Flexibility
LCD walls are the ideal option if you have limited space. They are also highly customisable, ranging from a simple two-screen display such as a 1×2 (one screen wide x 2 screens high) or larger 2×2, 3×3, 4×4, all the way up to 10×10 if necessary (we can’t say that we’ve had a 10×10 one yet, but if you wanted one – we’re on it!)
We can supply LCD video walls in many different configurations to match the size of the space available to you, such as a 3×2 video wall that is three screens wide and two screens high. Sometimes, a very long, narrow video wall might work best, such as a 5×1 (five screens wide but still only one high).
This flexibility is attractive because they can be specified for small and large spaces. Check out some previous LCD walls we have fitted.

Seamless Integration
Even though LCD video walls are made up of multiple screens, the edges of some screen models are incredibly narrow, to the point where when two screens are next to each other, the combined bezel width is less than 1mm (!), which creates a virtually seamless display.
Quality
With their exceptionally high image quality, LCD video walls are ideal for retail stores and other indoor environments, such as shopping centres.
Easy Set Up
Another advantage of professional LCD video panels is that they have built-in video processing, which, for simple configurations, allows them to take a video signal and easily share that over all the screens without stretching or squashing your content, or needing to buy additional video processors, as are often required with LED video walls.

Fresh Content
With the correct content management systems, you can use your video wall to show more than one different piece of content at a time so your entire video wall display can act as one large canvas; show your company video on one side, with your monthly achievements or some local travel and weather information on the other maybe? Almost anything is possible, and it’s easy to schedule automatic presets, which helps to keep the content looking fresh and exciting – the freedom of choice is yours!

Frequently Asked Questions
We have compiled a list of FAQs concerning LCD video walls below, which will hopefully answer any queries that you may have about them. Feel free to get in touch with us if you have any more questions.
Generally, LCD video wall screens can last for around 50,000 hours – which equates to about six years if they are on 24/7 and have been installed correctly, taking into account heat management and maintenance. Conversely, an LED video wall can last approx 100,000 hours.
Of course! Not only are they a great branding and educational tool, but they can create a memorable look which will help set you apart from your competitors.
What you use it for is entirely up to you. However, they are perfect for advertising your products and services in retail stores, commercial lobbies, and office space.
The typical power consumption for an LCD video wall screen varies depending on the screen size and manufacturer, from 90 to 300 watts, with screens drawing more power when they first start up or run in their highest brightness setting. It used to be that LED video walls were more power-hungry, but advances in technology now mean that LED video wall displays are more energy efficient than LCD; the final energy consumption figures will vary according to the pixel pitch, content show and brightness levels, however, as a rough comparison, it would be approximately 70 to 150 watts for a similarly sized panel.
Yes, more than you will ever need! As an example, if each LCD panel has a Full HD resolution of 1920×1080, then a simple 2×2 video wall using four screens will therefore have a total display resolution of 3840×2160 (4K), and a 4×4 video wall will have a resolution of 7680×4320 (8K). So, an LCD video wall will allow you to create large display screens with incredibly high resolution, but at this point, the resolution of your source content and how easy this will be to manage become essential factors.
The most common size LCD video walls are 3×3 (three screens wide x three screens high). However, any screen size is possible; it all depends on the space you have to work with and your final budget.

Frequently Asked Questions
Video wall installations generally take several days, depending on the size and location. Video walls require power and data connections and are heavy, often requiring structural support. Hence, video walls must be carefully planned to achieve the best outcome.
Yes, you can! Most video walls are seen in business environments, but if you have the space and budget, the latest seamless LED video wall technology can create impressive large-screen displays that rival your local cinema!
There are numerous different functions a video wall can have. A few popular reasons for having a video wall are for signage, entertainment, surveillance and advertising purposes.
This depends on which type you opt for. Typically, the lifespan of an LED video wall is at least 11 years (often longer), while an LCD video wall is around about 5 to 7 years.
Power consumption is another essential factor to consider before purchasing an LED or LCD video wall. LED video walls are more energy efficient than their LCD counterparts, and their lifespan is also almost double that of an LCD video wall, so they are by far the most energy-efficient type of video wall.
Image quality and display resolution are some of the most common questions asked. By their nature, LCD video walls will have a higher display resolution than LED video walls. However, they are very different display technologies, so the resolution of your video source content will be equally important. Depending on your requirements, HD, Full HD, 4K and 8K video wall displays are all possible with LCD and LED video walls.
The number of screens used in an LCD video wall depends on the overall size of the video wall you want to create and the space available to put it. The most common video walls are nine screens, arranged in a 3×3 format using 55″ screens, which comes in at approx. 3.6 x 2.0 Metres (WxH), but every project is different, and we have installed video walls in all different sizes.
Typical individual LCD video wall screen sizes are 46”, 55” & 60”.
- 46”: Dimensions approx. 1022 x 576.6 x 101.7mm (WxHxD)
- 55”: Dimensions approx. 1213 x 684 x 95mm (WxHxD)
- 60”: Dimensions approx. 1335.9 x 754.2 x 149.3mm (WxHxD)
The final configuration will depend on the unique situation, so please get in touch, and we will design a video wall to suit your requirements.
Yes, of course! When it comes to large outdoor displays, LED video walls are the best display technology to use because of their high brightness and durability. Outdoor LED video walls can be mounted onto the side of buildings, provided on freestanding steel support structures, or mounted onto vehicles for portable outdoor video wall displays.
